Despite the pair consistently gaining high scores from the judges, AJ candidly opened up about “feeling the pressure” ahead of her performances.

The TV star said: “You just don’t think you’re capable. You just don’t know it’s possible.

“I definitely do feel nervous and then I feel the pressure and start to tremble,” AJ explained.

However, she went on to confess that she becomes “excited” the second she steps out onto the dancefloor with Kai.

Speaking about her performance last week, AJ revealed that she battled with self-doubt.

“Last week was a tough one, I struggled a lot. I had a lot of self doubt, even on the day,” she admitted.

However, the star went on to attribute her incredible performance to her dance partner who helped her “channel” her nerves into the choreography.

“But somehow Kai managed to make me channel that in a positive way on the dance floor,” she said.

Revealing that she got “goosebumps” while watching it back, AJ admitted that she found the routine emotional.

She explained to The Sun: “I got choked up at the end because Kai puts everything into teaching me the choreography and I always want to do it justice.”

The star also revealed that she was “in shock” following the judges’ scores and said she hopes to continue to channel “raw emotion” into her performances.

Last week, the pair wowed the judges with their American Smooth to I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

Following their performance, Kai picked AJ up into his arms, as the audience erupted into applause.

Clearly emotional, Kai could be heard saying: “Ah I love you. I love you so much.”

The pair then embraced with AJ thanking her professional dance partner for his support.

The intimate on air conversation between the pair sparked romance rumours from Strictly viewers, who gushed over the duo’s chemistry.

Speaking about the moment on It Takes Two with host Janette Manrara, AJ said Kai’s comments came from a place of “happiness”, while he said his words came from being in the moment.

“I think – I think that was all down to the, just tough, tough week that we had,” he said, before gushing over his partner’s “flawless” performance.

AJ and Kai are currently fourth on the leaderboard after scoring a total of 35 last week.

Ahead of them are John Whaite and Johannes Radebe in first place, Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu in second, and Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice in third place.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this evening on BBC One at 6.45pm.
