Bake Off star Prue Leith set to move in with husband after 9 years together

Prue Leith has opened up about finally moving in with her husband of four years.

The Great British Bake Off star, who recently turned 80, has admitted that the idea of living with her husband John Playfair, 72, has never really felt right before now.

Speaking to the Telegraph, the much-loved telly star said that her independence is of the utmost importance to her.

Prue admitted that her busy schedule has kept her from finally making the decision to move in with her other half.

The star, who has just released her new book The Vegetarian Kitchen, has been rather occupied, but is now ready to finally live with John in their newly built home.

"John calls our new home our 'retirement home'. We have to face that fact that we're going to be living together for the very first time.

"It just really feels like the right time now," she shared.

The celebrity chef admitted that she's eager to see the dynamic between her and John when they take the plunge later this year.

The 80-year-old also gave an insight into what their new home looks like.

"It’s quite modern, which is unusual in the middle of the Cotswolds.

"The council thought the plans were architecturally exceptional. We probably won’t move in until Christmas."

It looks as though Prue will be the one doing all the cooking once the pair finally move in together, as John is partial to a microwave meal.

"He’s pretty good all round. He doesn’t do the cooking, but he makes me tea and sometimes cleans my shoes.

"In fact, he’s so good at cleaning them that I’ve stopped doing it," she joked.

"He’s very domestic and self-sufficient, and he doesn’t complain when I go off for work and leave him with a freezer full of ready meals".

Prue previously opened up to Loose Women about living in a separate house to her husband.

She said: "I have to say, this is a slight press exaggeration. We live together in my house, sleep together in my house each night, but the thing is, he still has his house where all his stuff is.

"When we wake up in the morning, he makes me a cup of tea – I get it in bed, he goes back to his house and cleans the shoes, including mine!

"He doesn't have any gender rubbish, he doesn’t mind carrying my handbag, he is a confident guy."

Explaining the reason for separate houses, she added: "We are both too old and have too much stuff, imagine, me having to move half my clobber out the house for his, he is the most untidy man I have ever met, I am neat and organised, it would be awful!"

Prue tied the knot with John in 2016 after five years together, and the star said that she's never been happier since becoming a wife again, despite the couple previously vowing they were happy remaining just partners.

The South African cook was previously married to author Rayne Kruger from 1974 to 2002, when he died at the age of 80.
