BBC presenter Stephen Clements dead aged 47 — months after landing ‘job of a lifetime’

BBC presenter Stephen Clements has tragically died at the age of 47, it has been confirmed by the network.

Stephen passed away just four months after landing the gig on BBC Northern Ireland, which he called the "job of a lifetime."

His death was announced by his employer on the lunchtime news after his 10:30am show was instead hosted by fellow presenter Steven Rainey.

The married father-of-two began hosting his morning show on the station in September after stepping down from Q Radio's breakfast show.

Peter Johnston, the director of BBC Northern Ireland said: "We are sorry to bring you the sad news of the passing of our colleague Stephen Clements.

"Our thoughts are with Stephen's family, friends and colleagues, at this difficult time."

Q Radio, where Stephen worked for eight years, tweeted upon the announcement of the news: "We are heartbroken today to learn that our former Q Radio Breakfast show host, colleague and friend Stephen Clements has died suddenly at the age of 47."

In a statement, the station added: "Today feels very surreal for all of us at Q Radio, Stephen was not only a much loved colleague and broadcaster but a friend to so many of us.

"We've been overwhelmed by the volume of people getting in touch to share their experience of Stephen — his humour, generosity, compassion and ability to put people at ease. He will be missed by all of us more than words can say."

Autism NI — who the star was a patron for — also paid tribute, saying: "Autism NI are saddened to hear the sad passing of our Patron Stephen Clements. Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family and friends. Stephen was a great supporter for autism across Northern Ireland."

Stephen is survived by his wife, Natasha, and two children, Poppy and Robbie.

A collage of images of himself with his young children was posted by his Twitter account on Monday night alongside emojis which depicted praying hands and a heart emoji, just hours before his death was confirmed.

His 19,400 followers were quick to post their messages of condolences, with one writing: "To say I am in absolute shocked is an understatement!
