Bella Hadid's latest fashion shoot reminds me of a Friday night in middle school. For starters, the outfit screams early aughts "loungewear," not to mention, the quality and backdrop of the images evoked a full-on bout of nostalgia in me for basement photoshoots with friends.
On Wednesday, the model posted a gallery of photos to Instagram to show off her latest chaotic outfit. The first picture in the carousel is a mysterious illustration of an electric blue heart with angel wings, while the rest of the snaps feature Bella modeling a throwback look that included a striped Guess zip-up hoodie with an 81 patch sewn on the front pocket (the year the designer was established), brown lycra folded down leggings, and a thick white headscarf.
Hadid posed next to a white lampshade and a blue couch with what appears to be a library or study behind her. She had the colorful sweatshirt hiked up to show off her abs while her ring-adorned hand pulled at the waistband of the pants. In several shots, Bella flashed a duck face at the camera — another telltale sign of prepubescent selfies.
My question is where did she acquire such clothing items? Are they thrifted or did this supermodel really hang onto her preteen staples for all these years?
Bella has single-handedly launched a '90s and '00s fashion renaissance with her unique clothing choices. In case you missed it, the world class model has been dressing like … NSYNC lately with her oversized windbreakers, colorful sunglasses, and graphic tees.
And this style epiphany is all her own doing. She recently revealed to WSJ. Magazine that she hasn't worked with a stylist in two years. "In the last year, it was really important for me to learn that even if people talk about my style or if they like it or if they don't, it doesn't matter, because it's my style," she told the publication. "When I leave the house in the morning, what I think about is: Does this make me happy? Do I feel good in this and do I feel comfortable?"
