Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman, 49, discussed her lengthy stint on the show at the BAFTA TV Awards 2021 this evening. She joked she believes the bosses will one day tell her they no longer want her on the show, which she hosts alongside Tess Daly, 52.

Speaking to Tom Allen on the red carpet, she said: “I’m very lucky, ridiculously lucky.

“I keep on going, ‘Wait, are you sure you want me to come back? Tess, am I allowed to stand next to you?’

“No, I love it,” she continued, adding she was “very grateful” to still be there.

On returning to the show, she went on to say: “One day they’ll (the bosses) go, ‘Do not get in the cab! Stay where you are’.”

The presenter added she regularly uses the tube, which took Tom by surprise.

“I’m always on the tube, the central line is my life!” she added.

Tom replied: “You’re so down to earth!”

Ahead of making her way into the venue, Claudia posed for the cameras on the red carpet.

The mother-of-three sported a poncho-style black dress with bedazzled fringing, which she paired with heels.

Adding to her look, she wore her shoulder-length hair and her iconic full fringe down and straight.

Claudia is representing Strictly Come Dancing this evening, which is nominated in the Entertainment Programme category.

Other shows nominated include; I May Destroy You, Sex Education, The Crown and Small Axe up.

Opening the ceremony this year is It’s A Sin star Olly Alexander with a performance of his latest single Starstruck.

He said: “I’m so excited to be performing Starstruck at the BAFTA TV Awards this year!

“We’re performing outside next to the red carpet so I’m looking forward to serenading the stars as they arrive.

“I’m also going to be reunited with the love of my life, Lydia West, and presenting an award, it’s going to be such a good night!”

Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar is also a guest presenter at the event.

Speaking on the red carpet, the actor discussed the popular BBC show and took a swipe at the Government.

Om why people like Ted, he said: “Well, I think it’s because he’s a bit old school, I think people like to believe there is someone like Hastings in charge.

“Somebody who’s got a bit of a moral backbone, it seems to be lacking in a lot of our leaders at the moment.

“Maybe that’s one of the reasons that people respond to him as a character.”

The 2021 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards airs tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
