For Scranton-based Pat Finnerty, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made the dream of a lifetime come true when he made an appearance on the superfan’s 24-hour livestream on Instagram.
On Saturday, August 15, Finnerty took to Instagram Live to broadcast “Grohlathon,” a 24-hour live-stream that was being aired for the sole purpose of being noticed by Grohl himself and with the hopes that he would sing Sting‘s parts on Dire Straits‘ 1985 his song, “Money for Nothing.”
Grohl joined the livestream at the 9-hour-mark after it was brought to his attention by actor, Andrew Sikking, who was in attendance at a dinner party thrown by Grohl in his home.
“That’s it? That’s all you wanted?!” Grohl screeched when he was humbly requested to sing the Straits’ song alongside Finnerty, to which he obliged.
“The messages that I’ve been getting all day were, ‘It’s so inspiring what you did, because you set a goal and you achieved it,'” Finnerty later shared in an interview with Rolling Stone. “Like, I’m this f-ing nobody and I got to Grohl in nine hours because I believed in it.”
