Dolly Parton has been busy these days. Her latest project is a collaboration with author James Patterson on the book Run, Rose, Run. It was recently announced that Parton and Patterson will release a bookcast to accompany the book. The “Love Is Like a Butterfly” singer also plans to release an album based on the novel. Here’s what we know about the Spotify bookcast.
Dolly Parton and James Patterson’s Spotify bookcast
Parton and Patterson are teaming up to present Spotify’s first bookcast. This format will combine Patterson’s storytelling with Parton’s music. The duo’s bookcast “blends audio storytelling with original music and sound elements in an immersive listening experience,” says Spotify in a statement.
Dawn Ostroff, Spotify’s chief content and advertising business officer, is excited about the project. Ostroff says it’s an honor to work with Parton and Patterson. The platform is looking forward to offering listeners a new way to experience their content by merging music with the spoken word.
“We are honored to partner with Dolly Parton and James Patterson on Run, Rose, Run, a trailblazing audio experience from two of the world’s most prolific creators that combines Spotify’s core elements—music and spoken audio,” said Ostroff in a statement. “This unique audio experience exemplifies the limitless potential of audio and Spotify’s commitment to partnering with exceptional creative talent on new innovative formats.”
Dolly Parton contributed her music
Parton is equally thrilled to participate in the bookcast. She’s excited to be able to share her work with people around the globe. Her new album, also titled Run, Rose, Run, will be released in March.
“I still can’t believe that I get to launch Spotify’s first-ever bookcast with my buddy James Patterson,” says Parton in a statement. “What a great way to reach out to listeners all around the world.”
Parton says the best way she could add to this book was by creating new music to accompany the text. “When we wrote this book together, I felt I could contribute best by sticking to my first love, music,” she says. “James and I hope that listeners will be able to feel the connection between the book and the album as we work to bring this story and these characters to life, as only two storytellers can.”
Dolly Parton’s ‘Run, Rose, Run’
Parton’s new book takes place in Nashville, Tennessee. The story is about a singer named AnnieLee Keyes who travels to Nashville with the hope of realizing her dreams and making it big as a country music star. Her past gives her the fuel she needs to write her songs. However, she has a big secret that could block her from reaching her goals.
During an interview with Talk Shop Live, Parton says she felt intimidated when Patterson first approached her to co-author a book. “We talked about it,” says Parton. “I was kind of intimidated because I had no idea why he would want to write a book with me. So, once he told me the thought and the idea, then I thought, ‘Well that seems perfectly like a natural thing to do.’ And then we started writing the book.”
