Eleanor Tomlinson: Sarah Ferguson wants Poldark’s Demelza to play her in The Crown

The Duchess of York, 60, is said to be huge fan of Eleanor Tomlinson, 27, who has the same red hair. In addition, Sarah Ferguson would also like to see Julianne Moore, 58, would also be a good fit for the royal.

According to The Sun, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew wants the two women to play her at different stages in her life.

A source reportedly told the publication: “Sarah has really enjoyed the series — even if it hasn’t gone down well with all members of the royal family.

“She’s told several people close to her she really loves the idea of Eleanor after watching Poldark. In later life, she’s keen on Julianne Moore.

“These days something as big as The Crown actually matters — for a whole new generation that’s how they will know who the Duchess actually is.”

The Crown series will return tonight, covering the royal family from 1964 to 1977.

Express.co.uk have contacted Sarah Ferguson’s representatives for comment.

Meanwhile, Eleanor revealed she almost “drowned” when she had to act out a scene where she dived into the water in a heavy costume for the War Of The Worlds.

She revealed things did not go swimmingly as she admitted she felt like a “lead balloon” while submerged in the water.

It did not take long for the production crew to send in a rescue team as she revealed she thought “I’m going to die”.

Speaking to Jonathan Ross, Eleanor explained: “I just read the script and absolutely loved it. I loved this character. It was a high action bit of fun. Something different and an amazing cast. The costume was amazing, it was pretty heavy though.”

“There was a scene set in the sea, it was actually filmed in a big swimming pool. I had to dive in and I had to swim to save this child,” she explained.

“That costume when it gets wet, let me tell you, I was like a lead balloon and I just went completely down and ended up sitting on the bottom of the pool just waiting for this diving team to come and rescue me and thinking ‘Oh gosh I think I might die here, this is quite strange.’”

She added: “Then sure enough there they were.”

Eleanor, who played Demelza in the hit show with Aidan Turner, also went on to address the possibility of a Poldark reunion.

She said: “The whole cast and crew on it were amazing, I will miss it a lot, but it’s time to do something else. It’s exciting. It’s opened lots of doors.

“It will always have a very fond place in my heart. Aidan is always off gallivanting around the world, so I haven’t caught up with him in ages but we are good mates. You never say never.”

She continued: “I kept the corset from Poldark, just because it was so painful and I wanted to never have to wear it again but to own it and think.

“I got through it, I wore it every day. Now I can eat a burger and chips and be able to enjoy as opposed to not be able to finish it.”

She finished: “I wouldn’t say no [to a reunion] we’ll see. It would be lovely to do a reunion, it would be amazing.”
