Candice Brown explains why she decided to adopt a dog
She won the hearts of the nation after winning The Great British Bake Off seven years ago, but Candice Brown was secretly battling with her mental health behind the scenes.
The 38-year-old went public with her health struggles in 2019 after being diagnosed with chronic depression and ADHD.
Candice says she struggled for a very long time and decided against telling anyone about what she was dealing with.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she expressed: “It’s something I struggled with for so long and I kind of kept it hidden.
“I was diagnosed with clinical depression, PTSD, chronic phobia and they are day-to-day things, something that I will have my whole life.”

The television personality admitted that she went into panic mode when she first spoke about her mental health and questioned whether she had done the right thing or not.
She explained: “When I did start speaking about it, I did panic and think, ‘Oh my god,’ and then I do sometimes still think, ‘Oh god, have I overstepped the mark?’.
“But then I think, ‘actually, no’ because then I might get a message that will say, ‘thank you for speaking out’.”
Candice keeps herself busy with running her pub The Greenman Eversholt, baking, television work as well as her charity endeavours, but says she’s sometimes in danger of burning out.

On how she manages the daily struggles, she revealed: “I’m just trying to learn to be kinder to myself and recognise the symptoms of when my mental health is taking a dip and also trying to recognise symptoms of waring out because I tend to do that a lot.
“I work and work and work, I go, go, go and then I’ll burn out and crash.”
The pub-owner said she surrounds herself with her loved ones and has learnt to “take the rough with the smooth.”
Candice has partnered with Vital Proteins to create a mixed fruit breakfast cheesecake with their new Strawberry and Lemon Beauty Collagen.
As well as her mental health, Candice likes to take care of her physical self also and has seen a great benefit from adding collagen into her diet.
“Obviously looking after my hair and my skin and nails is a big thing of me, that’s really where I’ve seen the benefits,” she told Express.co.uk.
