However, it was not known until now that the 33-year-old, who also stars in the TV adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s Cormoran Strike novels, was expecting twins.
For Harry, who played Princess Margaret’s toyboy Roddy Llewellyn in The Crown, the new arrivals are an extra-special occasion as he is an identical twin himself.
The couple cradled the babies in papooses to protect them from the weather as they went window-shopping before having lunch at a small cafe.

‘It was a lovely, happy family outing,’ said an onlooker.
‘Even though both of the actors are on our TV screens all the time, no one paid them the slightest bit of attention. But the twins got a lot of admiring comments from groups of old ladies. Mum and Dad seemed delighted by that.’
Holliday and her actor boyfriend have been dating since 2015.

Holliday plays Detective Inspector Rachel Carey in The Capture and stars as Strike’s sidekick Robin in the private detective series.
Meanwhile, Harry, 36, will shortly appear as a detective in My Name Is Lizzie, Channel 4’s mini-series on the bungled undercover operation into the murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common in 1992.
His identical twin Luke is also an actor, seen recently in the ITV drama The Singapore Grip.

Dad Harry’s a twin himself – so did that make it more likely?
Harry Treadaway, pictured here with his cigarette-puffing twin Luke, may think having two babies together is a family tradition. But experts say his genes are unlikely to have played a part.
It is unclear if his children are identical or not. According to the NHS, a third of twins are identical, caused when a single egg is fertilised and divides in two. Such ‘monozygotic’ twins do not run in families and everyone has the same one- in-250 chance of having them.
Non-identical, ‘dizygotic’ twins occur when two separate eggs are fertilised. The resulting babies are no more alike than any other siblings.
There is a gene that makes a woman more likely to release two or more eggs during ovulation, which runs in families. Whether the father carries this gene has no bearing on whether he will have twins, but he could pass it on to a daughter, leading to the idea of twins ‘skipping a generation’.
