A frequently-voiced idea from the last couple of weeks suggests that, now we’re all living in quarantine, we can finally write that novel, paint that masterpiece, learn a new language, or pursue any other number of personal passion projects.
Idris Elba has certainly been putting his time in isolation to good use. After testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, the actor, musician and DJ immediately put himself into lockdown — and he just released a new track, entitled ‘The Long Road 2’, all about his recent experiences.
Passing the time. Thank you for all your support and encouragement right now. Means a lot. Creating is my therapy… I think I’m driving Sab crazy though 😅😅… Hope you guys are good. pic.twitter.com/4TcipwqZ1s
“Creating is my therapy,” Elba wrote on Twitter, and while this latest creative expression stems from his own life, the lyrics will speak to anyone who has felt that the world they’re living in has got a whole lot more surreal lately:
“Yo, this ain’t a dream / this ain’t a movie or a scene / this ain’t a character I get to play / and then I walk away / this is the real fucking thing / and every word that I say ain’t a line, it’s really mine / the tears ain’t makeup / I couldn’t make this up.”
Elba jokingly added that he is driving his wife, Canadian model Sabrina Dhowre, “crazy” while they stay isolated together. While Dhowre hasn’t been tested for coronavirus, Elba told fans earlier in the week that they’re both “doing OK” and urged everybody to stay positive.
“We live in a divided world right now, we can all feel it, it’s been bullshit,” he said. “But now’s the time for solidarity. Now’s the time for thinking about each other.”
