Jackson Browne has announced his new album, Downhill from Everywhere, and shared a music video for the lead single, “My Cleveland Heart.”
Downhill From Everywhere, Browne’s first album in six years, is scheduled to release on July 23 via his own Inside Recordings.
“There’s a deep current of inclusion running through this record,” Browne said in a statement on his website. “I think that idea of inclusion, of opening yourself up to people who are different than you — that’s the fundamental basis for any kind of understanding in this world.”
“On the surface, it’s about living in L.A.,” Browne said in a press release. “But it’s really a metaphor for life itself. I adore this city, but I’ve been trying to leave since around the time I finished my first album.”
“You can love and appreciate and depend on a life as you know it, but deep down you may also long for something else, even if you don’t know what it is,” added the singer-songwriter who has sold more than 18 million albums in the United States.
Alissa Torvinen directed the music video for “My Cleveland Heart,” which features Phoebe Bridgers.
Torvinen said it’s an honor to collaborate with Browne. In her opinion, Browne’s “creativity is inspiring, not solely in music, but in everything he puts his energy into.”
