Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly bought a luxurious home in Santa Barbara County’s Montecito area. But Loose Women presenter Janet Street-Porter has claimed their new move may not have been the best idea.

The 73-year-old broadcaster has claimed the area is a “safe haven for the elderly”.

Her comments come after the Loose Women panelist revealed her own experiences visiting Santa Barbara before adding the couple may need an “exit plan”.

Janet explained: “Santa Barbara is California’s well heeled version of Sandbanks in Dorset, a safe haven for the very elderly and the extremely rich.

“Local inhabitants glide around in their electric cars en route to daily wellness classes.”

She continued: “Santa Barbara is like an old people’s home crossed with the Truman show.

“Too perfect, too safe, and mind-numbingly dreary. A favourite with golfers, polo players and script writers of yesteryear.”

Janet added in her latest column for the Mail Online that Prince Harry and Meghan may have made a “dreadful mistake” in their quest for more privacy.

The ITV broadcaster added: “I predict Harry will be desperate to come home by this time next year.”

Santa Barbara is a city on the Californian coast approximately 100 miles away from LA.

The city is home to upscale neighbourhoods like Montecito which is home to many famous faces including Meghan’s close pal Oprah Winfrey.

Elsewhere, Janet recently clashed with her Loose Women co-star Brenda Edwards during a heated discussion about the former royal couple earlier this week.

During a debate on Meghan and Prince Harry’s biography Finding Freedom, the broadcaster insisted she wasn’t a “hater” when Brenda described the different reactions to the biography.

But Janet also revealed she had not read the book which was released earlier this week.

Brenda said: “I love them, always been a supporter, always said let them be.

“Will this book change what people think of them?

“You’ll get three different types of people with this book. You’re going to get the people like me who are supporters, you’re going to get haters…”

Cutting her co-star off, Janet exclaimed: “I’m not a hater!”

“I did not direct it [at you],” Brenda said before continuing: “And then you’re going to get curious people.

“I think you’re more curious than you are a hater.”

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm.
