Jennifer Garner revealed she “basically had a wedding for herself” to celebrate turning 50 back in April. The 13 Going on 30 star’s extravagant shindig comes just a few months after ex-husband Ben Affleck, 50, married pop star Jennifer Lopez, 53.
“I basically had a wedding for myself,” Garner admitted, referring to the lavish party she threw to mark the milestone.
The Juno actress said she organised the beautiful Spring party without anticipating how big it would become, confessing she was “so shocked that I was doing it”.
The Springtime festivities were also in the name of a good cause, as Garner revealed those in attendance were put to work for the sake of charity.
The Once Upon a Farm co-founder explained how she’d asked her guests to dig deep in order to fill 5,000 backpacks each containing enough food to feed a family of four.
The initiative was part of the actress’ continued support of the Blessings in a Backpack programme.
The star spoke to Town & Country about how her charitable gestures over the years have helped her to gain the reputation of one of the “nice” celebrities.
She said: “I have no reason not to be nice. My life is lovely. I’m not always just nice. I can also be salty, and I can be taciturn, or I can be really serious about what I want to get done.
“It’s not that I feel I’m underestimated in that way—I’m not afraid to stand up for myself and say, ‘Just so you know, this isn’t going to fly with me.’
“When that happens, I don’t want you to be shocked that I’m a real person.”
Garner’s comments come after her ex Affleck and new wife Lopez announced they had tied the knot this year on July 16.
Affleck and Garner married back in 2005, but the pair split and their divorce was finalised in 2018.
The former couple share three children together: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10.

Lopez dated Affleck before he had begun dating Garner, with the pair famously breaking up 20 years ago.
The world-famous pop star dated the Good Will Hunting star for 18 months before they suddenly split in 2004, but now, the couple are back together.
Meanwhile, Lopez was also previously married to ex-husband Marc Anthony, 54, between 2004 and 2014.
The former spouses share 14-year-old twins Max and Emme.
All parties appear to be on good terms, with Affleck and Lopez having since announced their plans to invite their exes to a lavish Christmas party this year.
The newlywed couple have plans to celebrate both Christmas and the American holiday Thanksgiving together, throwing a “huge celebration” for their nearest and dearest.
The pop star and Argo actor are keen for their children to celebrate the upcoming holidays with all their parents present as “one big family”.
A source told Entertainment Tonight that it is not confirmed if either ex would accept the party invitation but added there is “no bad blood” between the families.
The source said: “They have to sort things out with both sets of kids and their exes, but they would love to have all the kids together with them as one big family and are working on that now.”
Express.co.uk contacted all parties for comment at the time.
