Dame Judi Dench revealed that she once started an “outrageous” rumour that Wellington Arch, which was built as an original entrance to Buckingham Palace, was a small Tesco open only to the Royal Family.
Wellington Arch is now situated on Hyde Park Corner and is one of London’s most famous landmarks.
When asked about the “most outrageous trick” she’s ever played, the 88-year-old told Good Housekeeping: “My old driver and I started the rumour that the Wellington Arch on Hyde Park Corner was actually a Tesco Metro and only The Royal Family were allowed to use it.
“How handy it was, right in front of Buckingham Palace!”
Elsewhere in the new interview, Judi shared that her secret to maintaining her lust for life comes down to “living in the now”.

The Oscar winner continued: “Try not to look ahead too much. If you start looking ahead, you miss the bits that are happening now. I find it very hard to talk about two or three days’ time; I think, ‘No, no, no, this bit is lovely’.
“That’s not to say you don’t prepare for things in the way that we have to, but I think it’s a pity if you waste the moment. Life is too short.”
It comes as Judi will celebrate her 89th birthday on December 9, which she says she doesn’t “want to think about”.
The legendary star recently revealed that she believes and feels as though she is 56. Speaking at the Braemar Literary Festival, she said: “We’ve got to keep going and not think of age too much. You have to think you are about 56. Also, I don’t make a point of keeping fit. I am very bad at that.”

In a July interview with the Mirror’s Notebook Magazine, the James Bond actress said: “I mean I can’t see on a film set anymore. And I can’t see to read. So I can’t see much. But, you know, you just deal with it. Get on.”
