Katie Price just wants to feel accepted after bombshell mental health documentary

Katie Price has told pals she is desperate to put the years of turmoil behind her and “finally move on” after bravely opening up about her mental health in her new documentary, Katie Price: Trauma And Me.

In the Channel 4 show, which aired last week, Katie, 44, spoke about the moments leading up to her drink-driving crash last year, following which she narrowly avoided jail and was handed a 16-week suspended sentence and two-year driving ban. She also bravely discussed a suicide attempt and how she lives
with PTSD.

While it was understandably difficult for the mum-of-five to lay bare her demons to the nation, a source close to the star says it’s actually gone some way in helping her on the road to recovery, though she knows it will be a long process.

“Katie’s documentary has been such an emotional roller-coaster for her,” our source said. “Reliving some of the most traumatic experiences in her life has been difficult but rewarding.

Opening up about her struggles and trauma has given Katie the opportunity to finally come to terms with her wrongdoing and allow herself to forgive herself.

“She feels relieved. She feels like a huge weight has been lifted off her shoulders. Speaking about the regrets of her past has allowed Katie to heal.”

Katie told viewers she was brutally raped at gunpoint during a carjacking in South Africa in 2018, triggering her suicide attempt.

Katie was travelling from Johannesburg to Swaziland with her children Junior, 17, and Princess, 15, while filming her Quest Red TV show My Crazy Life when the horrific ordeal happened. “Six guys jumped us, held me at gunpoint and raped me,” she said.

Detailing how she attempted to take her own life, the former model, who is also mum to Harvey, 20, Jett, nine, and Bunny, eight, said that the only thing that kept her alive was her children. “All I saw was the kids’ faces and I never want that to happen again,” she explained.

Our source continued: “Opening up about surviving rape has allowed Katie to heal and begin to process the tragic experience that she was scared to speak about before. Being so honest and vulnerable doesn’t come easily for Katie but she finally feels as if she is taking a step in the right direction.

“Anyone can suffer from poor mental health and opening up has finally allowed Katie to feel comfortable in her
own skin. She feels she is misunderstood and just wants to feel accepted.

“This documentary has been a huge stepping stone for her mental health. Katie showed her true honest self throughout the documentary. It’s allowed her to let go of past traumatic experiences.”

They added, “Opening up to the world has been like therapy for Katie. Katie can try and finally put the past behind her, move on and work to being a better person.”

Ahead of the documentary, Katie told OK! that her family find it difficult to understand her struggles. “My mum, my sister, my dad, my brother, I know you don’t get to see all of them in the documentary but you can not get a tighter knit family together. Our bond is so strong. And that’s what none of them can understand,” she said.

“Why did this happen to me, because we’re all so strong? But there’s reasons why it’s happened to me and they understand it. And no one could have done anything about it. It’s people taking advantage of me. It’s just happened all of my life,” she added.

The star went on to admit that she feels her friends have used her for money in the past, and has claimed that they’re “obsessed” with her.

She explained, “It’s like people around me become obsessed with me and their world revolves around me – they’re obsessed with what I’m doing. It’s never been normal for me.”
