KISS’ Paul Stanley Voices Support For Musicians Selling Publishing Rights

Paul Stanley has sought to justify the recent trend of veteran musicians selling publishing rights of their music.

Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited recently acquired 100 percent of Lindsey Buckingham and Shakira‘s publishing rights, Jimmy Iovine‘s producing royalties as well as 50 percent of the global copyright and income interests in Neil Young‘s entire song catalogue.

“As far as I know, we only get one trip on this Earth, and you can’t take it with you, so I totally get it,” the KISS frontman told Ultimate Classic Rock.

“If there’s money to be had and it’s going to make your life better, then why not? It’s a different business model, but it makes total sense,” Stanley added. “At some point in your career, you look at what you’ve created and what it’s worth. A rtists do that; it’s what painting’s about. You don’t stash your artwork – you sell it.”

Stanley also said he is grieved by the death of Supremes singer Mary Wilson, with whom he chatted on Zoom very recently.
