The family and friends of Larry King are “ecstatic” that he’s finally divorcing his wife of 22 years, Shawn.
Sources close to the legendary broadcaster — who filed for divorce in LA on Tuesday — said that, after years of going back and forth on whether to end the toxic marriage, he finally pulled the plug after realizing that he doesn’t want to be married to Shawn when he dies.
Larry has had both a cardiac scare and a cancerous lump removed from his lung recently, and a source told us, “He nearly died, and he realized that she never really cared about him.”
As well as deciding that he didn’t want his singer wife at his side on his death bed, we’re told that Larry also didn’t want Shawn to get an inheritance when his time comes.
As Page Six has been reporting since 2016, Larry’s loved ones have been pushing him to cut Shawn, who’s been accused of having multiple affairs, out of his life. They say that he’s been on the brink of filing more than once, but has always changed his mind at the last minute.
Said one of the cheerleaders for the chop, “Everyone is ecstatic — absolutely over the moon. We just hope he’s alive by the time [the divorce] is final.”
“It’s a huge weight off his shoulders,” the source added. “They detest each other.”
We reported Wednesday that Shawn was blindsided by the filing and that neither Larry nor his lawyers called her to break the news. Sources told us that she learned of it from reporters.
TMZ has reported that Larry snapped when Shawn asked him to sign documents that seem to benefit her over their sons, Chance, 20, and Cannon, 19. Our source confirmed that was one of the factors that pushed him over the edge.
Larry — who has been married eight times to seven women — filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday.
