Laurence Fox speaks on trolls as he addresses Caroline Flack's suicide

Laurence Fox has spoken about the effect trolls have on him as he addressed the suicide of Caroline Flack.

The 40-year-old Love Island presenter was found dead in her east London flat on Saturday 15 January, with her lawyer confirming she died by suicide.

Speaking about her passing, Laurence – who has been embroiled in controversy for his thoughts on woke culture – was affected by Caroline’s death.

‘I didn’t know Caroline Flack and I feel so utterly heartbroken by the whole thing,’ he told Dan Wootton on TalkRadio this week.

However, with many pointing the blame at certain media coverage as well as social media and her upcoming trial after she was charged with assault, Laurence added: ‘There is no point in blaming everybody for things.

‘If you take away someone’s feeling that their life has meaning and there is a reason for them to be alive, those that aren’t in the best place and aren’t capable of dealing with that level of horribleness may end up in a position where they take their own lives.’

When asked about his own instances with trolls, he described backlash he received online as ‘very painful’, but he insisted Twitter wasn’t ‘the real world’ so he didn’t let it affect him.

‘It’s very painful man, but I’m a dad, what [do I] say to my kids. “Why are you upset dad?” People are being mean to be on Twitter,’ he continued. ‘Twitter isn’t the real world.’

Laurence said: ‘You want to be mean to me? Come up and be mean to my face and we’ll have a conversation. I won’t put up with bullies in this way.’

The 41-year-old previously came under fire – and revealed he received death threats – when he suggested that playing ‘the race card’ is getting ‘boring’ in a stint on Question Time.

He was also met with a wave of backlash after attacking 1917 director Mendes for including a Sikh character in the World War I, claiming it ‘forced diversity’ on viewers.

Trolling the trolls recently, however, Laurence thanked the haters as he counted his money. Which is something we would encourage you not to do if you don’t want to poke the bear.

He aimed a Twitter clip at his trolls, thanking them for their ‘fantastic’ work.

‘This is an appeal aimed specifically at my music trolls,’ he said. ‘You are doing fantastic work! Please keep it up!

‘I cannot thank you enough for every single extra pound you are making me.’
