Loose Womens Denise Welch to play Queen Elizabeth II in Princess Diana musical

Loose Women's Denise Welch is set to play Queen Elizabeth II in an upcoming Princess Diana musical, named Diana the Musical.

The 65 year old is no stranger to acting, having starred in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Waterloo road during her lengthy career.

The concert version of Diana the Musical will see an older Diana both narrating and reflecting back on her life and that of her 19-year old self, played in two parts, by Kerry Ellis (Wicked, Anything Goes) and Maiya Quansah-Breed (original cast member of Six).

Denise will play the late Queen Elizabeth II in the show, which will take place at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith on 4 December 2023 at 7.30pm.

The TV star has posted about her upcoming show on Instagram, as well as reposting her friends' posts about it.

Over the top of one, she wrote: "The Queen. December 4th. Eventim Apollo.

"Get your tickets b*****s."

In another post, Denise could be seen in her Coronation Street character as Natalie Barnes, as King Charles – then Prince Charles – could be seen enjoying a tipple as he leaned one elbow on the bar.

At the top of this post, Denise wrote: "Have you heard???"

Despite posting a throwback snap with King Charles, Denise recently publicly said that she would rather pledge her allegiance to Charles' estranged son, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle, than to King Charles himself, when he was officially crowned King on 6 May.

During a discussion an episode of Loose Women, the panelists talked about the then-upcoming Coronation of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.

Prior to the Coronation, it was revealed that members of the public – both in the UK and overseas – were asked to pledge their allegiance to the new King.

Part of the ceremony, which took place at Westminster Abbey, was called Homage of the People, which saw people across the world declare their support for the new monarch.

During a discussion on Loose Women, Ruth Langsford said: "So it's a big thing [the coronation], Denise. Will you be watching but more importantly, will you be pledging your allegiance to King Charles?"

Denise, who didn't make an effort to disguise her disdain, answered: "What do you think?"

She went on: "I've got nothing against the royal family. However, of late, I am pledging my allegiance, if any, to Harry and Meghan.

"Because of that, I won't be pledging my allegiance. I don't even know what you're pledging for. I think we share the same views. I am loyal. I would pledge my allegiance to my family and that's all. I think it's very outdated.

"And I'm just not a fan of what's going on at the moment. So I won't be pledging my allegiance to them but I wish them all the very best in their King and Queen-ness."
