Martin Roberts, 56, has presented Homes Under The Hammer since 2003 when the show first began, so he knows all the rules that the presenters and film crews must abide by when going into the various properties featured on the program. And after one eagle-eyed viewer spotted a regular occurrence in most houses and decided to ask the question, Martin revealed there is a protocol they must ensure is followed every time when it comes to toilets.
It’s a rule that we film with the toilet seat down

Taking to Twitter during his weekly Q&A session, the fan wondered: “Why are so many bathrooms filmed with the toilet seat up?
“Does no-one think to put them down before filming?” they questioned.
Martin revealed there is only one reason why the seat would be up, as it is a firm show rule that the toilet must be closed.
“It’s a rule that we film with the toilet seat down,” he stated.
“But if there isn’t a toilet seat then we can’t do that!”
He didn’t go into too much detail as to why, but it’s safe to assume a shut toilet seat lid is better for everyone!
Last week, Martin was beyond excited that his HMO (home of multiple occupancy) project has finally come to an end and he couldn’t wait to show his followers and fans how they had transformed the dated property into something brand spanking new.
The property expert began the project in 2019/2020 and documented the whole process on his Making Money from Property with Martin Roberts channel, so fans could follow in his footsteps and garner the skills and knowledge to embark on their own renovations.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Martin walked around the property, showing off every aspect of the building that had been either updated or completely transformed.
“It’s that super exciting time of the project where you turn around and look at what you have achieved,” he told his followers.
“We have come to the end of a very long journey of the five HMO in Plymouth!”
In the lengthy video, Martin walked through the whole house explaining why they had changed this and that, and pointed out little bits and pieces that might be of use to people looking to redo their own place.

He admitted there was one part that could have been a “disaster” but they managed to find a way around it.
“If you remember, this was complete chaos – this whole area!” he exclaimed, as he gave fans a glimpse of one of the bedrooms, which was equipped with an ensuite.
“We did have a bit of a mistake and we had to move the radiator.
“It was originally where the bed is now, so that had to be shifted but we figured it out before we put the carpet down.
He added with relief: “That was a bit of a disaster adverted!”
He then continued to show off the spacious living room before he addressed his followers directly, gushing over the finished result.
“So, overall we have turned a very tired, rundown house into an absolutely beautiful five bedroom HMO,” Martin grinned.
