Matt Baker: The One Show host channels Peaky Blinders after BBC dressing room discovery

Matt Baker, 42, fancied himself as one of the Peaky Blinders online yesterday.

The One Show presenter donned a flat cap – famously worn by the Birmingham gang as seen in the poplar BBC Two drama – for a social media snap.

The television star posted the picture on his Instagram Stories, while revealing the owner of the hat.

In the moody black and white picture, Matt stares straight at the camera with a stern expression on his face.

He teamed the hat with an undone shirt and padded jacket.

The TV host captioned the snap, which he shared with his 85,100 followers: “@mrmichaelball You left your cap in my Dressing room #PeakyBlinders.”

In the British crime drama, fictional main character Thomas Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, wears a similar hat with a three-piece suit.

Along with his brothers, he leads an urban gang in the early 20th century in the stylish series which has become synonymous with the flat cap.

According to Matt’s post, the hat belonged to singer Michael Ball, 57, who used Matt’s dressing room when he presented The One Show on Friday evening.

Last week, Michael co-hosted the evening programme with Alex Jones, 42, who recently returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second son.

The pair interviewed dance duo The Pet Shop Boys, who are on course to claim their first number one album in more than 26 years.

In 1993, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s album Very was number one in the UK charts and their fourteenth studio album Hotspot looks set to top the charts again.
