The Oscar winner, 61, who played Mr Darcy in the TV adaptation of Pride And Prejudice in 1995, is dating American writer Maggie Cohn. They met while filming The Staircase and were spotted last week as they enjoyed a romantic lunch at his local Lebanese restaurant Grilandia in Chiswick, west London.

The Love Actually star was dressed in jeans, quilted jacket and a flat cap in the sunshine and he smiled as the couple left the venue. The couple laughed as they chatted on a walk and seemed deep in conversation, but were not seen holding hands. Maggie wore a turquoise wool coat and flat black shoes as she enjoyed the stroll. One onlooker said Colin cracked a few jokes to entertain his girlfriend.

Maggie, thought to be in her 40s, had flown in from her home in Los Angeles to visit Colin, who has a £4million home in Chiswick. Friends claim they are in a relationship after working together for several months on The Staircase, a HBO series written by Maggie. However, the romance has not been officially confirmed by either party.

Colin became a major sex symbol after his role as Mr Darcy, right. He has since starred in a strong of hit movies, including playing Mark Darcy, the awkward lawyer in Bridget Jones’s Diary, and Mamma Mia! In 2011, his portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech won him the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Maggie has won awards for TV’s American Crime Story and has also written episodes of the popular Netflix crime drama Narcos: Mexico. The couple’s romance comes two years after Colin split from Livia Giuggioli, his Italian wife of 22 years. The pair have two sons – Matteo, 18, and Luca, 20. They met in 1996 on the set of BBC drama Nostromo.

In The Staircase, Colin plays real-life US novelist Michael Peterson, who was convicted of killing his wife Kathleen in 2003. She was found at the bottom of the stairs at their home. He stars opposite Australian actress Toni Collette, whose films include About A Boy. The Staircase is set to be released later this year.
