X Factor star Myles Stephenson has just taken to Instagram to give an update on his young son, Shiloh, who he shares with his partner, Keli.
The Rak-Su singer shared a heartbreaking discovery with his fans, letting them know that the toddler suffered a stroke.
During the post, which consisted of both photos and videos of the little one, Myles described how he noticed Shiloh’s right hand was a lot weaker than his left, and was constantly in a fist for the first six months of his life.
He then revealed that the couple noticed he was dragging his right foot while walking.
Penning that the “hardest part about being parents is the things that are out of your control,” Myles then went on to explain that as first time parents, they didn't think much of it.
He even went on to recall that at Shiloh's developmental checks, the weaker right hand didn’t seem to be an issue, and that they just thought he was just “very left handed.”
Following recommendations from their family, Myles revealed that they took the toddler to the doctor for a check-up. Unfortunately, Shiloh was later diagnosed with hemiplegic cerebral palsy due to him previously suffering an unnoticed stroke.
Continuing with his post, Myles said: “Multiple appointments & eventually a MRI scan would later show that he had damage on the left side of his brain which had affected his right sided limbs.”
“It wasn’t being told that your son won’t be the next Messi or Ronaldo that hurt. It was the thought that doing his laces, spinning spaghetti on a spoon or playing certain games with friends might be a challenge for him. The small things,” he typed in the gut wrenching caption.
However, Myles then added that while his son “doesn’t know any different,” he “figures out how to do things in his own way.”
According to the singer, Shiloh’s brain damage can’t be reversed, but he insisted that he and his family are doing everything possible to “help strengthen the right side of his body.”
In the emotional post, Myles continued to gush over his son and share how proud he is of him. Not to mention how much progress he has made already.
Myles ended the post telling fans that he and his partner want to raise awareness of the condition and hopefully help any other parents who may be going through it. Plus, what signs to look out for “as the sooner you can find out the better it will be in the long run.”
He also urged those with experience or advice to come forward before thanking the “health professionals for helping us learn and understand more about how to help Shiloh.”
