After standing down for the Children in Need special last year, Nick Knowles is reprising his role as the presenter of DIY SOS for the BBC programme’s upcoming series. The 59-year-old had found himself in hot water with the broadcaster after breaching his contract by starring in a Shreddies advert, with his appearance in the commercial being almost identical to his role on DIY SOS.

We’ve always had a great response in Stoke area before so News, Radio, social media

And while many fans are excited to see Nick front the popular series again, the father-of-four has taken to social media to reveal that there had been very little response to a new construction site being built in Stoke.

It seemed apparent from Nick’s tweet on Sunday that the show was still missing many workers before filming commences next week.

The TV personality seemed convinced the show was understaffed for the project because there hadn’t been much promotion as the response in Stoke has been far more significant in the past.

In view of his 168,000 followers, Nick wrote: “Ok Stoke unusually small response to @DIYSOS build in the area starting 16th Feb & we think it’s because the word has not got out.

“We’ve always had a great response in Stoke area before so News, Radio, social media, charity networks please spread the word we need…. (page 1of 2).”

The Close Calls: On Camera star went on to tell his fans that if they had experience in any of the fields mentioned in his tweet, they should get in contact with the official DIY SOS email.

In a last-minute attempt to on board more workers, Nick added: “(Page 2 of 2)@DIYSOS Stoke could use your help on a big community build this month.

“We still need landscapers, joiners, Groundworkers, carpenters, multi-trades, electricians & tele handlers & Composite cladding/decking.

“If you can help, email [email protected].”

Back in November, Nick revealed how he chose not to speak out about his gruelling 10-month health battle with coronavirus in fear of being out of a job.

During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, he made his comments, telling Lorraine Kelly how he had taken secret work breaks caused by shortness of breath, which is commonly known as one of the symptoms when contracted with Covid.

Nick detailed how he had been affected with long Covid, a condition that leaves the person with coronavirus symptoms for months beyond the initial illness.

“I didn’t want to tell anyone because I thought I wouldn’t get a booking for work, I kept it to myself,” he publicly admitted.

When asked by Lorraine how he was feeling at the time of the interview taping, Nick responded: “Yeah, good now.

“I had it really bad right at the start of lockdown, and me being impatient, tried to get straight back into exercise directly afterwards.”

That same month, Nick had also told Lorraine he had already filmed an episode for the forthcoming series on the Beeb, which has yet to receive an official release date.

After Lorraine heaped praise on the BBC show, the former Real Rescues presenter briefly touched on Rhod Gilbert stepping in as his replacement during his absence from the Children in Need Special before confirming that the next series won’t include the Welsh comedian.

“Yes, I’ve already shot one,” Nick said.

“Rhod Gilbert very nicely stepped in and did Children in Need for me.”

“He did, that’s right, yes,” Lorraine added.
