Olivia Colman wears equality ring for equal representation on screen

Golden Globes 2020: Olivia Colman wears equality ring for equal representation for men and women on screen as she wins Best Actress award

She was honoured with the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for The Crown at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

And Olivia Colman made a statement as she walked the red carpet wearing a ring on her finger that read: ‘Equal representation for actresses, 50:50’.

The badge is from ERA 50:50, a British organisation which aims to have equal representation between men and women on screen.

Good cause: Olivia Colman, 45, made a statement at the Golden Globes as she wore a ring on her finger that read: ‘Equal representation for actresses, 50:50

The organisation was set up in response to a report which found that there is a ratio of two actors for every one actress and an average of 17 per cent female representation in crowd scenes in films.

Other actresses have worn the badge in the past including Emma Watson and Claire Foy who both sported it at the Golden Globes in 2018.

Olivia, 45, looked sensational at this year’s event, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, where she donned a bright red dress with dramatic puffed sleeves.

The garment also featured a train while the Oscar-winner added to her look with a pair of diamond earrings.

Olivia admitted that she was so convinced that she wouldn’t win the gong that she allowed herself to get ‘boozy’ ahead of the ceremony.

Praising her ‘marvellous’ fellow nominees, Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies), she said: ‘Thank you so much.

‘I said I had money on this not happening, I feel like I’m living someone else’s life and I definitely think I’ve won someone else’s award.

‘Thank you so much. I’ve had the loveliest time doing this and to all my fellow nominees who are just marvellous.’

She added: ‘I don’t know what to say, I’ve already got a little bit boozy because I thought this wasn’t going to happen. Thank you completely sums it up.’

Olivia then took a brief moment to celebrate Fleabag and its star Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s wins for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

She added: ‘Fleabag, yay. Everyone here, honestly, sitting there and watching everyone is so exciting.

Style: Olivia looked nothing short of sensational at this year’s event, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, where she donned a bright red dress with dramatic puffed sleeves

‘Thank you for having us, thank you for having me, I’ve had such a lovely time. Thank you very much.’

Olivia starred alongside Phoebe in Fleabag, which portrays the titular character in the groundbreaking series – which she adapted from an award-winning play – as it follows a young woman trying to cope with life in London while coming to terms with a recent tragedy.

Ahead of winning the gong, Olivia was seen living it up with Gillian Anderson as they shared fun snaps from the ceremony.

The Oscar-winner also gave fans a glimpse at her transformation ahead of gracing the red carpet in a stunning, billowing crimson gown.
