Olympian Evan Lysacek Weds Dang Bodiratnangkura in ‘Unconventional’ Days-Long Celebration

The figure skater married his girlfriend after one-and-a-half-year of dating in an intimate ceremony on Thursday, December 12, followed by Saturday’s large party in Bangkok, Thailand.

AceShowbizEvan Lysacek is officially a married man. On Thursday, December 12, the Olympic figure skater tied the knot with his girlfriend, Duangpatra “Dang” Bodiratnangkura, in an intimate ceremony taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two-time U.S. national champion and his fiancee chose to make their union official in a traditional Buddhist ceremony surrounded by around 70 friends and family. They incorporated some American touches by exchanging Patcharavipa-designed wedding rings which were engraved with the date and time of their nuptials.

The newlywed couple followed it up with a Friday rehearsal luncheon at the Siam Society in Bangkok and a Saturday reception at Bodiratnangkura’s family’s Nai Lert Park. Instead of having thousands of guests Thai weddings would normally see, the two limited theirs to around 120 to 300 people for each events.

Among the guests from Lysacek’s side were fellow Olympic medalist Tessa Virtue and longtime coach Frank Carroll. Meanwhile, Bodiratnangkura, who happened to be the great-granddaughter of important businessman Nai Lert, has the princess of Patiala, the royal princess of Bhutan and Thai government officials as her guests.

As for the wedding attire, Lysacek opted to go with two custom Ralph Lauren tuxedos and his custom Ralph Lauren suit. His bride, on the other hand, reportedly put on an ivory macrame lace gown by Vera Wang, an Oscar de la Renta dress and a traditional Thai dress from the dress-maker of Thailand’s queen mother, Sirikit.

About the mixture of East and West for their wedding celebration, Bodiratnangkura explained to PEOPLE, “We didn’t just want to welcome our guests to Thailand but give them a unique experience here in Bangkok.” She added, “Our lives will always be a fusion of Thai and Western culture, which has been a major consideration in the planning of our wedding celebration.”

After the festivities, Lysacek and Bodiratnangkura will travel to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. They have also planned to go to India before returning to Thailand.

Lysacek first met Bodiratnangkura through introduction done by mutual friends back in 2010 after he won the Olympics. While they stayed close since then, they did not begin to date until summer of 2018. By April 2019, they have gotten engaged after he proposed to her on her birthday in Miami.

Speaking about Bodiratnangkura before the big day, Lysacek gushed to PEOPLE, “I’m 100 percent sure that Dang is the right woman for me. And hopefully I can be the right man for her always. But I know that I love her and that I want to spend every day with her.” His then-fiancee, in the meantime, spilled, “The moment that I look forward to most is kissing my husband and knowing that we’re truly united as one forever.”
