Omid Djalili called out for ‘inappropriate’ TV moment by wife ‘Should be embarrassed’

James Martin says curry dish is ‘best he’s ever tried’

Comedian and Winning Combination host Omid Djalili, 55, was asked what he believes is the best performance he has seen on television, to which he revealed was the moment he scored against a robotic goalkeeper on the BBC show. While he believes his goal-scoring moment was “underrated” he said his wife disagreed and believes it was embarrassing.

He said: “Mine, when I scored against a robot goalkeeper on The One Show in April 2014.

“They brought out this contraption that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo could get the ball past.

“I was told if I hit the ball into a precise spot of the top left corner, there was a tiny chance it could go in.

“When I scored, I went bananas and properly lost it.”

Addressing his wife’s reaction, he added to The Guardian: “Afterwards, my wife asked me why I acted so inappropriately and said I should be embarrassed, but I think it’s the most underrated television moment in history.”

The iconic moment shows the comedian running around outside the studio with his arms in the air as he celebrated his goal.

His acheivement was followed by a cheer from hosts Alex Jones and former host Matt Baker, along with a crowd.

In the same interview, the stand-up comedian went on to say he would love to be a guest “resident relationships adviser” on the popular dating show Love Island.

Explaining his reasons, he said: “I often watch and think someone needs to explain to them that the boys are all scared of emotions, which I shout at the TV.

“I think it could go viral, which is good, because wha I have to say is of global significance.

“We’re a society that loves youth, but there’s a wisdom of age, too, which is dismissed.”

In his own personal life, the comedian has been married to actress Annabel Knight since 1992.
