Prince Harry stayed at Frogmore Cottage for last time on UK trip

Prince Harry stayed at Frogmore Cottage during his surprisereturn to the UK last week, sources have claimed.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, is understood to have stayed at the Windsor home while he attended the preliminary hearing in his claim against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) at the Royal Courts of Justice.

It was the first time Harry had returned to Britain sinceKing Charles asked him and wifeMeghan Markle tovacate Frogmore Cottage – the UK home they were gifted by the lateQueen following their marriage in 2018.

The Duke arrived in the UK last week – appearing at court on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – before flying back home to the US.

According toThe Sunday Telegraph, Harry stayed at Frogmore Cottage while he was in Britain – and it is thought likely that he used the time to sort through the Sussexes’ remaining belongings, deciding what needs to be shipped to their home inMontecito, California, ahead of them leaving the Windsor property.

According to reports at the time, the King, 74, wanted Harry and Meghan, 41,out of Frogmore Cottage before his Coronation in May.

It was said that the five-bedroom Georgian property had instead beenoffered to Prince Andrew, who looks set tobe moved from Royal Lodge – where he has lived since 2003 – as part of a shake-up of royal households.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were said to have been “blindsided” and “disappointed” by the decision. They are understood to view the cottage as “the only place left that’s safe” for them and their children Archie and Lilibet in the UK.

Prince Andrew meanwhile is also said to beagainst the move – with a source telling OK! that theDuke of York will not give up Royal Lodge without a fight.

The Sussexes lived at Frogmore Cottage before theystepped back from senior royal duties in 2020 and theypaid back £2.4m of taxpayers' money spent on renovating the property.

They were expected to let the lease expire on the cottage after they left for America, though they reportedly committed to a new 12-month rolling deal last April.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry is part of a group – along with Baroness Doreen Lawrence,Sir Elton John, Sadie Frost andLiz Hurley – who are bringing legal claims over allegations that Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers Limited carried out or commissioned illegal or unlawful information-gathering.

The hearing concluded last week – with a decision expected at a later date.

The Duke did notmeet the King or brotherPrince William while he was in London for the court case, it was reported.

Relations between Harry and the Royal Family continue to be strained following the publication of the Duke’s bombshell memoirSpare and the release of the Sussexes’ controversialNetflix documentary, Harry & Meghan.
