Priyanka Chopra Jonas says being role model is ‘not what I strive for

Citadel: Richard Madden stars in trailer for Prime series

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 40, is returning to the crime-action genre that catapulted her to fame as the star of Quantico, but claims her ‘role model’ title is nothing more than a by-product of doing a job she loves.

She explained to Express.co.uk at the London premiere of Citadel: “It’s not what you go to work striving for, it’s just what ends up happening.

“Honestly my job is just to go to set and create characters and I’m very grateful that by the work that I do there’s some sort of repercussion like that in a real good way, that’s nice.”

The actress has previously opened up about being one of the few leading ladies in the spy-genre, noting that she’s excited at the prospect that her daughter may one day look back on her roles with pride.

Priyanka revealed that she would like to have Us star Lupita Nyong’o continue this legacy as her successor in the spy series, declaring the 40-year-old would be “an amazing Citadel recruit”.

The star also gushed over her colleague, Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden, 36, telling Express and other outlets: “He’s the best, he comes in so prepared, he’s such a disciplined actor.

“I’m someone who comes in with a lot of discipline so I’m very grateful that he wasn’t flippant about the job.”

In February, the actress admitted to British Vogue that her daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, has had an unexpected sway on her career since she was welcomed into the family in January last year.

She gushed over her career in Bollywood and Hollywood: “It’s been 20 years of hustling and working at breakneck speed. I’ve always been like, ‘What’s the next thing?’

“But now I feel I have a centre, a sense of calm, because every decision ends up being about her.”

Citadel is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on April 28.
