I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Richard Madeley was taken to hospital for checks after he felt unwell during the night. The 63-year-old was then told he wasn’t allowed back in the camp after he came into contact with others outside of the show’s bubble.

Former contestant Katie Price, 43, has since slammed the show for not allowing him back into the camp.

The ex model questioned why the journalist was allowed back into the castle to be interviewed by Ant and Dec, but not the camp itself.

She said: “So because of Covid reasons, they said he couldn’t go back to the camp. Then how’s he gone back in the camp to do an interview with Ant and Dec, who will be going in the camp when they reveal who’s doing the challenges?” she said.

“I can’t get my head around that either and he didn’t have a mask on or anything.”

Katie went on to say there “should be a vote to get Richard back in the camp”.

ITV said in a statement: “Our strict covid protocols means Richard has sadly had to leave the show as he is no longer in the bubble the celebrities form when entering the castle.

“He has been a truly brilliant camp mate and we thank him for being part of this series.”

The Good Morning Britain is now back in London and today discussed his experience with Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard.

On the night he fell ill, Richard said producers encouraged him to seek medical help at a hospital.

Following this, he was told this meant he wouldn’t be allowed back in camp.

Addressing his health issue, he said: “I think what happened to me was, I think I got dehydrated, I think that’s all it was.

“And dehydration, if anyone’s ever suffered from it, it’s actually quite disturbing.

“Basically I think I’d been up for about 20 hours the day before and the day before that, we were having very long days and sleeping quite late.”

Richard went on to say it was normal for him to forget to drink water, but thought leaving it until the morning would be OK.

“I basically woke up, I didn’t know where I was, I didn’t know what was going on and I could barely string a sentence together,” he added.

“I went to the hospital and had all the tests you could imagine. I had tests up here, I had bloods (and) all the rest of it.

“And I got 100 percent clean bill of health and they were happy for me to go back in, and by then I’d had a cup of tea and a drink of water and I was back on the rails.”

Richard was then told that there was no safe way to allow him back into the camp.

He acknowledged that if he had caught the virus from outside of the bubble and brought it back into the camp, it would’ve ruined the show.

Richard’s exit news was also questioned by Loose Women star Denise Welch on Twitter.

She wrote: “Richard Madeley has to leave I’m a Celebrity!!!

“Gutted !! Why can’t they just test him and let him back tmrw??? #imacelebrity.”(sic)
