Radio host Roman Kemp has revealed that he hopes the latest crop of I’m A Celeb contestants will still have to face gruesome eating challenges during the new series.
Roman, 27, who took part in the show last year, told OK! that he wants the bushtucker trials to be as brutal as ever, after the camp relocated from the Australian bush to a castle in Wales.
He joked: “I am just praying someone has to eat a penis. I mean, I had to eat a kangaroo’s bollocks for goodness sake last year.

“I really hope they get to eat as many animal body parts in the trials. We all need a laugh now more than ever.”
The Capital FM DJ spoke exclusively to OK! about his excitement over the ITV reality show starting, how he “feels so lucky” to be working as lockdown resumes and why it’s important to reach out to loved ones at this difficult time…

Do you ever find it difficult to remain so upbeat on your morning show, Roman?
I’m so lucky as I love presenting the show and feel very fortunate I have a job and can go to work every day through the pandemic. Getting to speak to the public for hours every day is great but of course it comes with pressure. I have to be realistic, we are going through terrible times and so I want to provide an uplifting time for the listeners and try to make them laugh every day. That is part of my job.
Well, you do it so well! It can’t always be so easy for you.
It’s tough for everyone at the moment but I have nothing to complain about. I am a 27-year-old who wants to be out there seeing my friends and having a good time but I can’t. That’s how things are for everyone so we have to accept it.
So when it comes to Christmas, do you have any idea what you will be doing?
Well, I break up from the radio show a week before on December 18 so will probably just take some time to chill. There will of course be loads of banter with my parents though (Martin and Shirlie Kemp), as we get quite competitive with each other once the games start coming out!
What do you enjoy playing?
We always play loads of games as a family but right now it is all about online gaming which I am obsessed with. One of the reasons I am involved in a new campaign with Cadbury’s is because I think, now more than ever, encouraging kids to connect with other in the virtual world and families learning to play together, means everyone has a connection, even if the rules mean we can’t be together at Christmas. I love playing with my mum as she secretly loves to try and beat everyone who she is playing against. Everyone thinks I am a lot like my dad but I’m not. I get my competitiveness off my mum. My dad loves gaming too but he is just totally chilled about losing.
You seem to have an amazing relationship with your parents. Has that always been the case?
Yes. I’m so proud of my dad. We have such a special father-and-son relationship. And my mum is the best. I love them both to bits.
And what about social media? You obviously have a vast following. Do you have a love/hate relationship with it?
Social media, I hate it, genuinely, I hate it. I’ll post on there but it gives me the worst feeling. If I could get rid of all my social media, I’d be a happier man.
You were a huge star on last year’s I’m A Celebrity! Are you planning on watching the new show?
Absolutely yes. Of course I am. I plan to be totally glued to the screen. I kind of feel sorry for the contestants though as I know exactly what lies ahead for them. I am just praying someone has to eat a penis. I mean, I had to eat a kangaroo’s bollocks for goodness sake last year. I really hope they get to eat as many animal body parts in the trials. We all need a laugh now more than ever.
On the subject of laughing, do you have any more advice on how to get the public through this second lockdown?
Look. We have done this before and now we can do it again. We all need to remain strong and positive. And if the kids are bored over the school holidays and can’t now see their friends, encourage them to get their headsets on! Speak to their friends online and if anyone is being left out, encourage them to join in so everyone can support one another.
Roman Kemp is taking part in the Cadbury Heroes League, a new gaming tournament where he will train his mum to compete against other parents.
