Sarah Ferguson is set to hand out an award at the Oscars as she looks to reinvent her image, according to reports.
The Duchess of York looks increasingly likely to be attending the glitzy ceremony in LA on Sunday, thanks in part to her close relationship with Elvis Presley’s family.
The 63 year old royal – known by her nickname Fergie – was especially close to Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie, the singer and songwriter who died in January aged 54.
And with the Elvis biopic up for eight awards at this year’s Oscars, it is now thought Fergie will be at the ceremony to give out a gong.
A source told The Sun: “There have been discussions about The Duchess attending and it now looks as though that will happen — the plan is for her to present an award.
“She has been a very close friend of the Presley family, especially Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie, and she even spoke at her funeral recently.
“That sparked some conversations about the possibility of her attending – and after some back and forth it looks like it’s happening.”
Fergie has been spending a lot of time in the US recently in a bid to revamp her image following scandals in the UK – including her estranged husband Prince Andrew’s continuing ban from royal duties over his connections to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The source added the planned Oscars appearance is a “big deal” for the Duchess as America looks set to “play a big part in her future” after recent turmoil in the UK.
Fergie and Andrew, 63, divorced in 1996 but the pair, who share daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, have remained close over the years and still live together at Royal Lodge, Windsor.
But it has emerged the pair look set to be moved from Royal Lodge as part of a shake-up of royal households.
Last week it was reported that Andrew had instead been offered Frogmore Cottage – which has been Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK base since they were gifted the home by the late Queen following their marriage in 2018.
However, this week OK! exclusively revealed that it was in fact Andrew’s daughter Eugenie who was moving into the cottage.
Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, confirmed last week they had been asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage. According to reports, King Charles made the decision shortly after the publication of Harry’s book Spare – with sources claiming that the Duke of Sussex’s criticisms of his step-mother, Queen Consort Camilla, had been the “last straw”.
