Celebrity chef and Sunday Brunch host, Simon Rimmer, 57, who starred on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2017, has insisted his TV pal Tim Lovejoy would be “brilliant” as one of the celebrity contestants on the BBC competition. The Channel 4 presenter partnered up with Karen Hauer on the programme three years ago.

He’d be brilliant.

Simon joined the 15th series alongside Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins, This Morning’s Ruth Langsford, JLS star Aston Merrygold and Debbie McGee.

The chef and the professional dancer were eliminated from the competition during the sixth week.

After Simon was asked whether he has continued to dance since leaving the show, he replied: “I’m still friendly with Mollie King and Gemma Atkinson and none of us still dance!

“It was one of the greatest experiences but I feel like I’ve got the T-shirt and that’s me done.”

He went on to tell OK! Magazine: “I hope Tim does it one year as he’d be brilliant.”

In the same interview, Simon proceeded to go into detail about his friendship with his co-presenter.

Speaking about working through lockdown, the Strictly star shared: “It’s been fun – I have the best job in the world.

“Me and Tim speak on the phone all week. We are like an old married couple, as I can tell what he’s going to do before he does it,” he said.

“We’ve been working together for 13 years and are yet to have a big argument.”

Aside from presenting Sunday Brunch, the chef shares his two children Florence and Hamish with his wife Ali, 51.

Simon was previously quizzed on the challenges he and Ali have faced after tying the knot.

“There are more personal challenges that require a different kind of strength and commitment,” he stated.

“I have been married for 22 years and like most people we have our ups and we have our downs.”

He explained to Mind Map: “However, communication is so important – to be open and honest with someone about your feelings is just so important – and we have managed to stay strong and committed throughout all of the things we have been through.”

Simon then clarified that he is “very happy” to have the family he has and branded his partner as his “rock”.

“On a personal level, I am very happy and fortunate to have the family I do.

He continued: “My wife is my rock and my partner in life and we have marvellous children who I am so proud of.”

While Simon also revealed that Ali used to be a “chef”, he discussed why cooking at home is “different” to preparing dishes in restaurants.

“Everything is perfect, everything’s got to be the same [at the restaurant],” he added.

“Cooking at home is far more relaxed. At home, you tend to cook far more on masse and everyone helps themselves.”
