Sinead O’Connor: Mourners gather in Bray ahead of funeral
Hundreds of people lined the streets to watch Sinead O’Connor’s funeral procession journey along the seafront near her former home.
Mourners, including celebrities and her devoted fans, waited in tears as her 1990 hit, Nothing Compares 2 U, was played through speakers on Tuesday morning.
Stars including Hothouse Flowers’s Liam Ó Maonlaí were seen among the crowd on Strand Road in Bray, County Wicklow.
The president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, also confirmed he would be attending Sinead’s private funeral. Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri, an Islamic scholar and the chief Imam at the Islamic Centre of Ireland, said he would be leading a Muslim funeral prayer.
Tributes have been flooding the area since her death on July 26. Her heartbroken fans have left floral wreaths, candles and emotional letters detailing how much she meant to them.

Several gatherings have been held across Dublin, Belfast and London and a large tribute was unveiled on a cliff close to Bray with “Eire [Ireland] loves Sinead,” written in large white writing.
Responding to the outpouring of grief, Sinead’s family invited members of the public to join the funeral procession.
A family statement read: “Sinead loved living in Bray and the people in it. With this procession, her family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love for her from the people of Co Wicklow and beyond, since she left last week, to go to another place.”
A councillor for the area said fans are “grateful” to the family for allowing them to “say goodbye” to the legendary Irish star.

Erika Doyle told BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning: “Sinead’s legacy is still being written and I think it will for some time… We are very grateful to Sinead’s family for allowing the opportunity to say goodbye…
“People are taking the opportunity to connect with her in some way…We need to mourn the Sinead of Nothing Compares, but (also) the Sinead who shone a light on difficult areas.
“She was controversial but in the way when people say things that people aren’t ready for… speaking truth to power.”
While Sinead spent a considerable portion of her life at her Montebello home, she moved back to London just weeks before her death.
On July 26, She was found “unresponsive” in her new flat and pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy was conducted to determine her cause of death. A report is expected within the coming weeks.
She leaves behind three children: Jake, 34, Roisin, 27, and Yeshua, 16. Her second youngest son, Shane tragically died by suicide last year. He was just 17.
