Steph McGovern, 37, has revealed she “hates” hugs in the workplace, as the move to express affection makes her feel “uncomfortable”. The mum-of-one admitted that although she is more than happy to embrace her friends, she gets anxious at the thought of hugging and doing “double kisses” with people she doesn’t know.
Steph, who left her presenting role on BBC Breakfast last year to front her own Channel 4 show, opened up about the issue on her podcast Not Bad For A Monday alongside her childhood friend Claire and Producer Geoff.
The television personality began by quizzing her co-stars: “Can I talk about hugs at work? What’s your view on them?
“I’m very happy to hug my mates and family, I’m not happy to hug people I don’t know at work, or even do double kisses.”
Explaining her feelings on the situation, Steph added: “I get genuine anxiety when I have to meet someone new about whether we’re going to double kiss or not.

“Like yesterday I was like literally sweaty palms, what’s the deal here? Am I going to have to double kiss? I hate it!”
Geoff appeared to empathise with Steph’s plight, as he added: “But doesn’t everyone hate it?
“Why don’t we all somehow acknowledge that we don’t like it?”
“But I think some people love it,” Steph chimed.
The star’s pal Claire suggested: “It’s the same with the shaking the hand thing.
“It’s like you get up to someone and you don’t know, ‘Are we going to double kiss? Are we going to shake hands? Are we going to hug? Or are we just going to stand?’
“But I think there should be a bit of etiquette where you just don’t hug at work.”
Steph then admitted she finds the whole idea of affectionate gestures at work “uncomfortable”.
