The Middlesbrough born presenter, who found fame as the BBC’s Business presenter before moving to BBC Breakfast, now fronts her own Channel 4 show and is known for her close friendships with the crew.
However, Steph was dealt a shattering blow when friend and producer, Lucy Johnston made the decision to walk away from Packed Lunch.
Sharing the news, Steph described Lucy as “the brains” behind the popular programme before adding that Lucy was the reason Steph uses social media.
Just hours after Friday’s episode wrapped, Steph took to Instagram to share the news.
Alongside a snap of herself and Lucy taken in the Leeds Dock studio, Steph penned: “Producer @lucy__johnston last show!!
“She’s one of the brains behind the scenes.
“She also taught me how to use Instagram. I’m gutted she’s leaving.”
The news of Glasgow-born Lucy’s departure certainly left fans feeling somewhat emotional as they flocked to the comment section.
One viewer penned: “My gosh the next producer will have big boots to fill. This shows fantastic. Hope the new person doesn’t change anything. Best daytime show, and deserves an NTA! Best of luck to her.”
While a second went on to add: “Good luck Lucy. You leave behind a great legacy!”
“Oh noooo! Give her a massive pay increase so she’ll stay,” commented a third.
While actor Luke Kempner who often appears on the programme added: “LEGEND.”
During an episode of Packed Lunch earlier this week, Steph was reduced to tears after a guest bravely spoke about their adoption story.
Aged just 16, Jill Killington fell pregnant and was forced to put her baby up for adoption due to no financial and family support.
Introducing her guest, Steph said: “Time now for an incredibly emotional story; for 25 years, thousands of women were forced to give up their babies for adoption, they included my next guest – Jill Killington – in 1967, Jill was made to hand over her baby boy, it was a common situation in that era.”
Steph went on to discuss the pain thousands of women were forced to endure if they fell pregnant under the age of 24 and were not married between 1945 and 1970.
As Jill shared her heartbreaking story, during which she spoke about her family offering no support and being left with no choice but to put her baby up for adoption, Steph became emotional.
Jill spoke about her traumatic time handing her son over to a foster family, who let her meet with her son until it was time to take him to the adoption centre.
“I had him in my arms and a lady came into the room and said ‘He’s a lovely baby, can I hold him?’ And of course, as soon as she had him in the arms, she said ‘kiss him goodbye’ and that was it.”
Instantly, Steph began to well up and said: “Sorry… I’m getting – as a mum, it’s so sad to hear that. I just can’t imagine how you must’ve felt.”
“When I actually handed him over, I was completely, emotionally numb, I don’t remember even crying. It was never mentioned again, my parents never mentioned it, nobody even mentioned it again,” Jill said.
Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12:30pm on Channel 4.
