Stephen King, 74, posts rare picture of himself in support of Ukraine and calls Putin ‘stupid’ amid Russian invasion
Stephen King has posted a rare picture of himself to his 6.6million followers on Twitter in support of Ukraine.
On Monday, the horror author wrote to his fans saying: ‘I don’t usually post pictures of myself, but today is an exception.’
The image showed the 74-year-old standing by a library bookshelf wearing a T-shirt with the slogan, ‘I stand with Ukraine.’

While pictures of the celebrated novelist may be rare, his political opinions are not.
Over the past week the author of The Dark Half has been deeply engaged with discourse surrounding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The day before posting his picture, King had tweeted: ‘For the first time in a long and infamous career, Putin looks stupid. It must come as a shock to him.’
Last week, he added on the micro-blogging platform while watching Fox News: ‘Tucker Carlson is being quoted on Russian TV, justifying the cowardly Russian beatdown in Ukraine. He’s our very own Tokyo Rose.’
His support comes as the movie industry in Hollywood also appears to be taking a stand amid the attacks.

Disney pressed pause on a number of theatrical releases set for Russia on Monday.
‘Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming Turning Red from Pixar,’ a statement from Disney read.
‘We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation. In the meantime, given the scale of the emerging refugee crisis, we are working with our NGO partners to provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees.’
It was also reported on Monday that Warner Bros. would not be releasing their hotly-anticipated superhero movie The Batman in the country.
Meanwhile, King’s latest novel Billy Summers tells the story of an Iraq war veteran who becomes a hit man after he leaves the service.
