Still Open All Hours and Doctor Who star Brigit Forsyth dies aged 83

Brigit Forsyth has died at the age of 83, according to reports.

The actress died peacefully in her sleep on Friday surrounded by family, her agent Mark Pemberton told The Sun.

The Scottish-born star’s agent praised the Brigit’s varied career in music, television and radio as tributes poured in for her.

In a statement, they said: “She was in many radio plays on the BBC over the years and also featured in the Radio 4 sitcom Ed Reardon’s Week.

“A talented musician, Brigit played the cello, sang and composed, and in later years played with several bands including The Fircones.”

She went on to star as Thelma in BBC sitcom Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads? which ran from 1973 to 1974.

Brigit also appeared in 80s sitcoms Tom, Dick and Harriet with Lionel Jeffries and Ian Ogilvy, before appearing in Sharon and Elsie.

Fans took to social media and paid tribute to the beloved star as many people offered their condolences.

Former BBC host Danny Baker penned: “Without Brigit Forsyth The Likely Lads would not have had the chemistry it had. A top class comic actor who enabled the narrative brilliantly. Here from probably the greatest episode,” as he shared a link.
