Stormzy has revealed that he is willing to forgive his father for abandoning his family when he was younger and wishes to reconnect with him in a candid new interview.
Speaking to Louis Theroux on his new interview series, the rapper, 29, – who was raised by his single mother Abigail – said his father is now ‘really sorry for the mistakes he made’.
In the wide-ranging chat, the Croydon-based star also revealed he was stabbed in his youth after getting involved in knife crime and he escaped the gang world via music.

In the chat, he told how he is learning to tackle his resentment towards his father after he left his family to start and started another one – before coming back into his life to ask for money amid his rise to fame.
In exclusive quotes obtained by The Sun, he said: ‘It’s very right that I hold this pain because of what he’s done, with him not being there.
‘He’s a flawed man, his mistake was a big one, but I know he’s really sorry and he’s reached out through my mother and my sisters.

‘I am going to speak to him — I now have the power to say, “I forgive you”.’
Stormzy also discussed his youth in South London, explaining that he was ‘stabbed a few times’ and had to be hospitalised for his injuries.
He also recalled the time he ended up in court charged with possession of a weapon before turning his life around with the help of his love for music.
He spoke about gang culture in general, saying it more often than not leads to injury, death or jail – after seeing many of his friends go down dangerous routes and end up dead due to knife crime.

He added that lots of his friends from his past now suffer with severe mental health problems due to their complicated pasts.
Elsewhere in the chat, Stormzy reflected on his painful split from his ex-girlfriend Maya Jama as he opened up about their relationship.
He admitted to making mistakes during their four year relationship but revealed he has since grown.
The couple, who split in 2019, have remained friends, despite Stormzy previously confessing to ‘disrespecting’ and being ‘inconsiderate’ towards her.

The musician spoke candidly to Louis, 52, and admitted that he had learned some tough lessons following their split.
Stormzy went on to hint at mistake that he made during his four-year relationship with Maya, adding that he never wished to feel that way again.
The notoriously private couple dated for four years but in 2019 were said to have ended their relationship in order to focus on their careers.
A representative for Maya confirmed the breakup to MailOnline at the time, with the Radio 1 DJ said to have already moved out of the rapper’s home.
Maya’s representative told MailOnline: ‘I can confirm the relationship has ended and Maya has separated from Stormzy.’
It’s not the first time that Stormzy has spoke of his relationship with Maya, having declared that he still loves her ‘wholeheartedly’ and wants to marry and have children with his ex-girlfriend in the future.
In 2020, he admitted he has ‘never loved anyone how I’ve loved her’ in a new YouTube interview with Charlamagne tha God.

‘She’s a f***ing G, bro,’ the grime star said of his ex. ‘I love her wholeheartedly. I’ve never loved anyone how I’ve loved her.’
The radio host asked if he thought the pair could ever reconcile, to which he responded: ‘I would love for that to happen but I don’t know…
‘I would love to be the man who she needs, I would love to do all the things that make this work. I want to marry her, I want to have her children.’
