Strictly Come Dancing pro slams Christmas special: ‘I will never understand’

Brendan Cole said he will “never understand” the format of the Strictly Christmas special and criticised its format while speaking to OK! Magazine. The former pro didn’t hold back as he delivered his verdict.

When asked if he still watched Strictly he said that his daughter Aurelia, 6, tunes in.

He said: “My daughter loves watching it. She dances around the living room.”

However he went on to berate the Strictly Christmas special and said he doesn’t understand why they bring back “old celebrities”.

He explained: “I will never understand why they bring back old celebrities who have already been on for the Christmas special.”

He said that instead he’d like to see all new faces featured in the special.

He continued: “It would be great to get new celebs.

Despite his criticisms, it seems as if he will still be tuning in come Christmas day.

The dancer explained: “I am sure it will be on in my house – we have got a very busy Christmas day because it is my daughter’s birthday as well.”

In the same interview Brendan opened up about his turbulent relationship with Strictly’s head judge Shirley Ballas.

He said that while they were once close, they wound each other up while both appearing on the BBC series.

He said: “We used to be really close back in the day but when I was on the show she knew which buttons to push with me and I knew which buttons to push with her!

“I am passionate and fiery, and I had to filter a lot on the show.”
