Dan Walker quit Football Focus back in April and today his replacement was confirmed. Alex Scott will be taking over from the BBC Breakfast host when he exits next week.

The ex England player took to Twitter after it was revealed she had landed the coveted role.

The 36-year-old gushed about her predecssor, 44, in view of her 300,000 followers.

She said her words “didn’t feel like enough” as she showed her gratitude to Dan for his “guidance”.

He has now responded to the new host, urging her to “take care” of the weekend football show.

The news was first announced live on the latest latest instalment, as he hosted alongside Alex and Dion Dublin.

The official Match Of The Day account wrote: “‘The person you are, as a human being, is everything. Thank you.'”

“As one Football Focus era draws to a close, another is just about to get going @mrdanwalker @AlexScott.

“A massive thanks to Dan – and Mike [cameraman]!”

Alex shared the post turning her attention to Dan, after chatting live from Wembley Stadium.

She tweeted: “I can’t say thank you enough @mrdanwalker. It doesn’t feel like enough…

“But I will keep saying thank you always for your help and guidance.”

“Thanks Al,” Dan replied. “Take care of it.

“I hope you love your time on it as much as I have. You’ll be great.”

Dan had posted about his departure shortly beforehand, updating his 710,000 fans.

He stated: “I’ve had a wonderful 12 years on #FootballFocus.

“I have one show left & then it’s over to the amazing @AlexScott.”

The father-of-three added: “It’s been a pleasure to get to know Al as a friend over the last few years & see her and develop into a top pundit and presenter.

“She’ll be brilliant. She always is.”

Dan confirmed he was leaving last month but will continue to work as a presenter on BBC Breakfast and for BBC Sport.

Football Focus airs next Saturday at 12pm on BBC One.
