With the coronavirus pandemic messing up her plans for the summer, Taylor Swift has decided to surprise fans with the release of her eight studio album.
Titled Folklore, the new album is set to drop at midnight on Thursday (July 23) and features sixteen songs Swift said she “poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”
“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” Swift said on Instagram.
“My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world,” she added. “That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”
The new album, a follow up to Swift’s hit 2019 album Lover, features contributions from The National‘s Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver.
Swift noted the standard edition of Folklore will feature sixteen tracks, while the physical deluxe editions will include a bonus track called “the lakes.”
The superstar also revealed a video for the song “cardigan” that she wrote and directed will premiere Thursday night.
“The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling,” Swift said.
