Taylor Swift Won’t Be at the 2020 Grammy Awards and Reportedly Called Off a Secret Performance

Taylor Swift will not be in attendance at this year’s Grammy Awards, according to Us Weekly. The exact reason for her absence is unclear. Multiple sources also told Variety that the singer withdrew from a possible secret performance at Sunday night’s award show, though she was never officially confirmed to take the stage at the ceremony. This will be Swift’s fourth time in a row missing the Grammys; her last appearance was in 2016.

The country-turned-pop superstar is nominated for three awards this year, although her latest album, Lover, was expected to pick up more. Swift is in the running for: Song of the Year for her track “Lover,” Best Pop Solo Performance for “You Need to Calm Down,” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Lover. She already has 10 Grammys to her name, including Album of the Year wins for her previous albums Fearless and 1989.

Though Swift isn’t attending this year’s ceremony, she still expressed excitement and gratitude when nominations were announced late last year.

“LOVER IS NOMINATED FOR SONG OF THE YEAR AT THE GRAMMYS!!!” Swift wrote via her Instagram Story in November. “Wrote this one alone in a quiet moment and seeing it honored in the Song of the Year category by my peers means so much, wow…3 noms guys!!!!”

Fans of Swift will get to see more of the singer when her new documentary, Miss Americana, premieres on Netflix and in select theaters on January 31. According to an official press release, the film will be a “raw and emotionally revealing look” at Swift’s life during a “transformational period” where she “learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.”

The Grammys air live on Sunday, January 26, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.
