Who is Timmy Mallet?
Timmy Mallett rose to fame on pioneering breakfast show TV-am, where he presented Summer Run on Saturday mornings in 1983.
He went on to present Wide Awake Club, a children’s Saturday morning show alongside Michaela Strachan and Tommy Boyd.
He is known for his zany fashion sense, in particular his outlandish glasses.
Also synonymous with Timmy was his iconic mallet, which on the Wide Awake Club was used to hit contestants over the head when they got questions wrong.
A talking smaller version of his mallet named “Pinky Punky” was featured, and soon became one of Timmy’s famous sidekicks along with Magic, his pet cockatiel.
TV-am replaced Roland Rat after it moved to the BBC, and Timmy was offered the chance to present it.
Then a spin-off of Wide Awake Club called Wacaday began broadcasting in 1985.
Timmy has also appeared on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! first as a stand-in contestant in 2004, and then as a full contestant in 2008.

Timmy, 64, is married to Linda Bingham, and the pair wed in 1990.
Lynda is originally from Australia, and after Timmy’s time in the jungle she gave an insight into life with the eccentric presenter.
Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2008, Lynda revealed that Timmy’s outlandish style was a little more muted at home.
She said: “Timmy started out in the Eighties, which was a colourful time.
“But I wouldn’t say they’re quite as loud at home, no.”
She also revealed how there was more to Timmy than just his loud personality: “He’s a talented artist and an astute businessman One minute he’ll be on GMTV, the next he’s doing a pop video.
“We lead a very varied life.”
If Timmy ever gets upset, Lynda knows a surefire way to cheer him up.
She explained: “You know what I do when Timmy gets crabby at home? I feed him.
“It works every time. If someone comes round and says they’ve had a bad day, I give them some cake.”
Pointless Celebrities is on BBC One tonight at 6.10pm
