Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has taken to social media to reveal why he “turned down” the opportunity to appear on BBC quiz show The Weakest Link. Taking to Twitter, the former Life Stories host, 56, explained that he wasn’t a fan of new host Romesh Ranganathan’s presenting style in comparison to that of former host Anne Robinson, after revealing that he had been asked to appear on the new version of the programme.
That’s why I turned it down a couple of years ago…

In view of his 7.9 million followers, Piers revealed his reasons for snubbing the programme.
“That’s why I turned it down a couple of years ago…,” he wrote, without specifying whether he was offered an appearance on the series as a guest or as the host.
The star was responding to a tweet from broadcaster Benjamin Butterworth, who had shared his thoughts on the reboot of the programme, which is now hosted by comedian Romesh.
He wrote: “The problem with Romesh Ranganathan hosting the Weakest Link is that it ends up just being like any other quiz show.
“Anne Robinson made it iconic with her put-downs and use of tension (even if she did push it too far).”
Agreeing with the sentiment, social media user Amanda Hughes relayed her own experience of appearing on the show.
She wrote: “I went on The Weakest Link with Anne….she swept in, didn’t speak to any contestants [before] camera, hearing her say your name on camera was a near death experience.
“I loved every second….this new show is weak squash I’m afraid xx.
“No offence to anyone involved xx,” she added.
However, Anne Moorea Bowie disagreed and commented: “I like the Romesh version better.
“I didn’t like Anne Robinson and thought she over rated in it.”(sic)
Anne hosted The Weakest Link for 12 years before leaving the show in 2012 upon completing her contract.
The so-called Queen-of-Mean hosted over 1,600 episodes of The Weakest Link during her tenure.
Speaking to the BBC back in 2011, Robinson explained that it was a “hard decision,” and that her time on the show had “been superb”.
“I’ll miss it,” Robinson continued, adding: “If there’s anything about longevity in television, it’s about knowing what to take and what to turn down, and what to stop.
“It’s often about what not to do anymore. And I just simply haven’t got time to do the book.”
The show eventually returned in 2020 featuring Romesh as the host, who has made his stance on avoiding Robinson’s unique style of presenting clear.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other outlets, Ranganathan explained: “There are certain things that Anne did that were textbook her.
“So I made sure I didn’t do them.
“You want to do it in your own way,” he added.
