Audemars Piguet has revealed a Black Panther-themed Flying Tourbillon, the brand’s first watch to result from its new partnership with Marvel.
The 42mm sandblasted titanium Royal Oak Concept features a black ceramic bezel, satin-brushed titanium inserts, black PVD coated white gold hour markers and a hand-painted white gold figure of Marvel’s Black Panther superhero in relief on the dial.
Powering the Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Flying Tourbillon, which is water resistant to 50m, is an in-house 3Hz handwound calibre 2965 offering 72 hours power reserve.
The watch takes on Black Panther’s black and purple color scheme using using vivid purple inserts front and back and a purple rubber strap.
Audemars Piguet revealed the watch for the first time during a livestream charity auction in Los Angeles, hosted by Audemars Piguet CEO François-Henry Bennahmias and actor Kevin Hart.
Serena Williams, Anthony Joshua and Ian Poulter offered three celebrity experiences which each went for hundreds of thousands of US dollars before a unique 18k white gold version of the Black Panther watch was auctioned off, achieving $6.6m USD.
The auction raised $8m USD in total for charities, First Book and Ashoka.
While there’s no word on pricing, just 250 pieces of the Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Flying Tourbillon will be made. Head over to Audemars Piguet for more information.
