CBS All Access Reveals Apocalyptic Trailer for Stephen King's 'The Stand' Miniseries

CBS All Access has revealed a new trailer for its upcoming miniseries adaptation of Stephen King‘s highly revered The Stand novel. Previously adapted for TV by director Mick Garris and Gary Sinise, this new take on the material is set in modern-day and may subsequently draw parallels to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The footage above introduces us to Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg), a 108-year old prophet who receives visions from God and guides survivors of a deadly flu strain that’s killed off most of the world’s population. Alexander Skarsgard plays The Dark Man, a supernatural figure who wishes to rule what remains of civilization as a dictator. According to CBS All Access, King himself penned the finale of the series, which is slated to feature material not included in his 1978 novel.

The Stand stars Amber Heard, James Marsden, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Brad William Henke, Odessa Young, and Henry Zaga. The nine-episode miniseries is set to premiere on the streaming service on December 17 with new episodes debuting every Thursday.

In other entertainment news, Mel Gibson stars as a gun-toting Santa in Fatman movie.
