Cradle of Filth musician Jon Kennedy has died at the age of 46.
The extreme metal star was killed in a crash on the A55 near Broughton in Wales.
His death was confirmed by Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth, so paid an emotional tribute to the talented musician.
He called Kennedy a ‘great bassist and singer who filled in for Cradle at a time of such magical import, mayhem and mischief.’
Kenedy joined Cradle of Filth in 1994 and remained with the band for a year before moving on amicably.
Filth recalled a ‘wickedly wonderful week’ spent with Kennedy’s family in Wrexham in 1995, ‘pulling pranks and playfully winding each other up back in those days.’
‘We picked our own magic mushrooms from a local football pitch and then watched Emperor synch up with the newly-released Disney ‘Aladdin’ on VHS, heading out to undertake Black Metal shenanigans thereafter.’
‘He will be missed. God speed old friend.’
Kennedy died following a crash on the A55 early last Monday morning, September 25.
A North Wales police spokesperson said at the time: ‘Shortly before 6.30am North Wales Police received a number of 999 calls reporting a vehicle – a white coloured BMW 118 – was in a ditch just off the A55 prior to junction 36 of the westbound carriageway.
‘The emergency services attended, but sadly, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.’
Kennedy was Cradle of Filth’s third bassist, joining the group during the Principle of Evil Made Flesh tour.
He also took part in the recording of the band’s Dusk and Her Embrace album, with his parts still audible on Dusk and Her Embrace – The Original Sin.
Kennedy went to become a founder of metal band Hecate Enthroned, whose members said in a tribute they were ‘shook and devastated by the passing of our brother.’
‘This isn’t just a huge loss for his family and friends, but for the thousands of music fans and genre lovers that he touched and inspired.
‘Jon’s passion for music was huge and at times all consuming which is reflected in how he is revered within the Black Metal scene. Working with Jon on music was fun, inspiring and challenging because anyone with that drive and passion was a force and this continued after Hecate with all his musical endeavours right up to the end with the Power house Imperial Genocide.
‘But this passion was matched with the love for his family and his close friends. A loving father and husband and son.’
They went on: ‘Our thoughts and hearts are with his wonderful family at this incredibly difficult time. As we mourn our brother please be mindful of his family and respect their space. But please raise the horns for Jon.’
Kennedy was married and had three children.
