Eddie Murphy rose to fame for his starring role in the first Beverly Hills Cop movie in 1984. Since then, the franchise has received two more installments, a sequel in 1987 and a third film in 1994, the latter of which failed to meet box-office expectations. This new installment, Beverly Hills Cop: Alex F, is being helmed by Netflix as a streamer-exclusive.
Three decades on, Murphy was ready to once again play the role of Alex Foley, a Detroit-hailing cop eager to solve crimes in Beverly Hills. This time, Foley is joined by his estranged daughter (Taylour Paige) and a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) on his investigation of corruption within the Beverly Hills Police Department.
He’ll also say hello to some friendly faces with Judge Reinhold and John Ashton reprising their roles as Lieutenant Billy Rosewood and Sergeant John Taggart, respectively.
The trailer previews Foley observing how much Beverly Hills has changed over the years before jumping into an action-packed sequence of heists, explosions and several surprise car crashes.
Beverly Hills Cop: Alex F is directed by Mark Molloy and produced by Murphy Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. The film is slated to premiere in summer 2024.
